Ray BLK has been turning heads in the UK for a while now, and we’re hoping the rest of the world catches up quick – she’s a stunner. The Nigerian-born Rita Ekwere came up in the Catford section of London, was part of a band with MNEK as a teen, started writing music while in university, and found she had a real knack at mixing cultural pride and catchy hooks. She has profiled the diversity of her stomping ground in her “50/50” and “My Hood” videos. Both are part of her ‘Durt’ EP. She explains herself in ‘Vevo Meets,’ beaming when she recounts a recent career highlight: winning the BBC’s ‘Sound of 2017’ Award for new talent.
