Last year everyone who keeps an ear out for new pop voices were stopped dead in their tracks by the powerhouse vocal of that drove the emotional lyrics of "Bruises." It was brusque but vulnerable, sleek but gritty. Lewis Capaldi owned it, and all those who heard it wanted more. The Scottish newcomer, who was one of Vevo's Artists To Watch 2018, has had plenty of fans turning his way since that time, and each new song he writes and records carries that same emotional clout. As a kid he was a fan of Paolo Nuntini, and when he began to sing, he tried to get a grip on the heft of Joe Cocker's mighty rasp. It has blossomed into something quite personal, and when he came into Vevo HQ to perform "Tough" he was in great shape. He says the song is about the vibe you have after breaking up with someone "trying to find your feet again."
